Jem Napier was born and grew up in Hamnavoe, Burra. A large part of her childhood was spent at Ireland in Bigton, where her mother hailed from. Those days were some of the happiest of her life and Paet Reek, Picters an Poetry is based on thee memories, along with those of her early years in Burra.
As well as her recollections she drew on her artistic talents for the production of this book which is written in verse form in Shetland dialect and accompanied by her own illustrations, alongside family photographs.
