Safely Wounded - Shetland Letters from the First World War

Regular price £5.00

This book of local correspondence by Shetland men and women from WW1 represents a tiny fraction of those sent. In those days, Shetland had two newspapers, and they both published letters from those involved in the war, which form the bulk of this publication. Others come from the Shetland Archives or from private hands. These letters are sometimes eerie, fascinating documents, made more poignant because we know what happened next. In a number of cases that was the suffering and death of the writer. Their writing however, involves the reader in an act of remembrance.
